Αλλος ένας Ελληνο-Αμερικάνικος γάμος, αυτή την φορά στην Αθήνα, στο Ντράφι συγκεκριμένα. Η Ελευθερία και ο Gregory ζούν στην Αμερική και ήρθαν στην Ελλάδα για να παντρευτούν. Ο γάμος έγινε στον ναό της Αναλήψεως στο Ντράφι και η δεξίωση στο πατρικό της Ελευθερίας. Οταν ξεκίνησα το μεσημέρι για να πάω στο σπίτι της Ελευθερίας ήμουν αρκετά ανήσυχος. Είχε ξεκινήσει μια καλοκαιρινή καταιγίδα και έβρεχε τόσο πολύ που δεν έβλεπα πέρα από τα 30-40 μέτρα στον δρόμο. Γνωρίζοντας ότι η δεξίωση θα γίνει στο σπίτι της Ελευθερίας αυτός ο καιρός θα ήταν καταστροφικός. Ευτυχώς η βροχή κόπασε μόλις έφθασα στο σπίτι και έβγαλε αμέσως ήλιο που στέγνωσε τα πάντα μέσα σε μία ώρα. Ο γάμος έγινε έξω από την εκκλησία όπως είχε προγραμματισθεί, σε ένα σκηνικό με εξαιρετική θέα και η δεξίωση στον κήπο του σπιτιού της Ελευθερίας όπου τίποτε δεν θύμιζε την απογευματινή καταιγίδα. Another Greek-American wedding, this time in Athens, Drafi to be more precise. Eleftheria and Gregory live in the States and came to Greece for their wedding. The ceremony was held at the church of Ascension in Drafi and the reception at Eleftheria’s parents home. When I set off early afternoon to go to her home to shoot her preparation I was quite worried. A summer storm had just started, with so much rain that I could barely see farther than 30-40 meters on the road. Knowing that the reception would be held at the house, this weather could be catastrophic. Thankfully, the rain stopped just as I arrived, the sun coming out and drying pretty much everything within an hour. The wedding ceremony was held outside as planned, in a setting with a beautiful view and the reception in the garden of the house where nothing reminded us of the afternoon storm. Ο Tim είναι από την Αμερική και ζει στην Ελλάδα τα τελευταία χρόνια. Η Ρίτσα κατάγεται από την Αμοργό και γνωρίστηκαν με τον Tim στην Αθήνα όπου δουλεύουν και οι δύο. Ακολουθώντας και τηρώντας τις παραδόσεις, ο γάμος έγινε στον τόπο της νύφης.  Ο Tim και η παρέα του προετοιμάστηκε παρακολουθώντας το παγκόσμιο κύπελο, η Ρίτσα κάπως πιο παραδοσιακά… H τελετή έγινε στην Χώρα της Αμοργού, αφού ο Tim παρέλαβε την Ρίτσα από το σπίτι της. Ακολούθησε δεξίωση στο ξενοδοχείο “Βίγλα” στα Θόλωμα. H Ρίτσα μας εξέπληξε όλους όταν ζήτησε από την μητέρα της να της κόψει το κάτω μέρος του νυφικού. Αυτό είναι Trash the Dress, και εν’ώρα δεξίωσης μάλιστα! Οχι, δεν το έκανε για να χαρεί ο φωτογράφος, αλλά για να χορεύει ευκολότερα. Και χόρεψε, η Ρίτσα, ο Tim και όλοι οι καλεσμένοι τους, μέχρι το πρωϊ.

Amorgos is one of my favorite islands. I hadn’t visited for many years, so I was extremely pleased when Tim & Ritsa asked me to photograph their wedding there. Known as the “diamond of the Aegean”, the place where “Big blue” (Le Grand Blue) was shot, Amorgos is a destination worth visiting. The traditional occupations of the people of Amorgos were – and still are – related to the sea; fishing and sailors (hence the “Mexico” key chain… I don’t usually post wedding detail shots…)

Tim is from the States and has been living in Greece. Ritsa is from Amorgos and met with Tim in Athens where they both work. Following and upholding traditions, the wedding was held at the bride’s place of origin. Tim prepared with his friends while watching the World Cup, while Ritsa’s preparation was a little more traditional… The ceremony was held in the capital, “The Chora” of Amorgos, after Tim picked up Ritsa from her house. The reception took place at the hotel “Vigla” in Tholoma. Ritsa surprised us all when she asked her mother to clip the end of her wedding dress. That is what a real Trash the Dress is all about, in the midst of a reception! No, she didn’t do it for the sake of the photographer, but to help her dance with greater ease. And Ritsa danced, and Tim and all their guests, up to the early morning hours.

Οι διακοπές είναι πάντα ευχάριστες, ειδικά όταν επισκέπτεσαι όμορφα μέρη όπως το Λιμένι, στην Μάνη. Οταν όμως έχεις την τύχη να δεις μια σπάνια caretta caretta να κολυμπάει δίπλα στην ψαροταβέρνα που έχεις κάτσει για μεσημεριανό, γίνονται αξέχαστες.

Vacations are always a pleasure, especially when you visit beautiful places such as Limeni in Mani. When, however, you are lucky enough to see a rare caretta caretta (Loggerhead) sea turtle swimming next to the fish restaurant you stopped by for lunch, they become unforgettable.

Η συγκεκριμένη χελώνα ερχεται κάθε μέρα δίπλα από την ψαροταβέρνα και περιμένει να της πετάξουν φαγητό οι ψαράδες που καθαρίζουν ψάρια.

This sea turtle comes by the fish tavern every day, waiting for the fishermen to feed her while they are scaling fish.

Ο Τάκης και η Μάρθα παντρεύτηκαν την Κυριακή, 20 Ιουνίου στον ναό του Αγίου Δημητρίου Λουμπαδιάρη στην Αθήνα. Γιόρτασαν τον γάμο τους με πάρτυ στο “Mamacas”, στο Γκάζι. Το ζευγάρι πέρασε καταπληκτικά με τους καλεσμένους του. Και εγώ. Οτι αναζητώ σε κάθε γάμο, χαμόγελα, συναισθήματα και όλα εκείνα που αποδεικνύουν την ύπαρξη αγάπης, ήταν παντού. Takis & Martha were married on Sunday, June 20 at the church of Agios Dimitrios Loumbadiaris in Athens. They celebrated with a party at “Mamacas”, a club in the Gazi area, a popular nightlife destination in Athens. The couple had a great time with their guests. So did I. What I seek to capture in any wedding, smiles, emotions and all the little things that prove love is there, were everywhere. In the following images you will find the visual narrative of their day, through a selection of my favorite images.

Η Ερμιόνη είναι μια πανέμορφη κωμόπολη στην Αργολίδα, τρεις περίπου ώρες από την Αθήνα, την οποία έχω την χαρά και την τύχη να επισκέπτομαι για γάμο τα τελευταία τρία χρόνια. Φέτος, για να φωτογραφίσω τον γάμο του Παναγιώτη και της Λένας. Πριν δύο χρόνια είχα φωτογραφίσει τον γάμο της Λένας, της ξαδέλφης της Λένας (όχι, δεν έκανα λάθος, έχουν το ίδιο όνομα). Η τελετή έγινε στον ι.ν. του Αγίου Γεράσιμου, μια όμορφη εκκλησία με θέα τον κόλπο της Ερμιόνης. Είναι μια από τις αγαπημένες μου πλεον εκκλησίες. Μετά την τελετή ακολούθησε δεξίωση στο ξενοδοχείο Βερβερούντα, στο Πόρτο Χέλι, όπου το κέφι κράτησε μέχρι τις πρωϊνές ώρες. Η ιστορία της ημέρας τους μέσα από τις αγαπημένες μου φωτογραφίες…

Ermioni is a beautiful small town in Argolida, about 3 hours away from Athens, which I have had the joy and good fortune to visit for weddings the last three years. This year, to photograph the wedding of Panagiotis & Lena. Two years ago I had photographed the wedding of Lena, the cousin of Lena (no, I didn’t make a mistake, they share the same name). The ceremony was performed at the church of Agios Gerasimos, a pretty church with a view of the gulf of Ermioni. It has become one of my favorite churches to shoot at. After the ceremony, their reception was held at Ververounta hotel, in nearby Porto Cheli where the party lasted until the early morning hours. Το Σάββατο, 12 Ιουνίου, βρέθηκα στην Κέρκυρα για να φωτογραφίσω τον γάμο του Άγγελου και της Βίκυ. Σε αντίθεση με τους περισσότερους γάμους που, εκτός από τον γαμπρό και την νύφη, δεν γνωρίζω κανέναν από τους καλεσμένους και πολύ συχνά ούτε και το μέρος, σε αυτόν το γάμο πολλά ήταν γνώριμα. Η Βίκυ είναι οικογενειακή φίλη, γνωριζόμαστε δε πολλά χρόνια. Η Κέρκυρα είναι η ιδιαίτερη πατρίδα μου. Μεγάλωσα εκεί, μέχρι τα 18 μου που πήγα στην Αθήνα για να σπουδάσω. Πολλοί από τους καλεσμένους ήταν γνωστοί, φίλοι… και οικογένεια.

Το μόνο πράγμα που δεν μου ήταν γνωστό ήταν η εκκλησία. Ο Άγγελος και η Βίκυ παντρεύτηκαν στην Μονή του Αγίου Λουκά κοντά στα Γουβιά, ίσως η ομορφότερη εκκλησία που έχω ποτέ φωτογραφίσει. Κρυμμένη μέσα στις ελιές και τα κυπαρίσσια, ελάχιστα λεπτά από την Εθνική Παλαιοκαστρίτσας, πολλοί Κερκυραίοι δεν την γνωρίζουν. Απ’ότι έμαθα,  εκεί μόνασε η αδελφή του Ιωάννη Καποδίστρια.

Μετά την τελετή ακολούθησε δεξίωση στο ξενοδοχείο “Milton” στην Ρόδα, στα βόρεια του νησιού.

Δεν μπορώ να κρύψω ότι είχα άγχος για τον συγκεκριμένο γάμο. Πολλοί συνάδελφοι θα συμφωνήσουν μαζί μου, πως καλό είναι να μην αναλαμβάνεις γάμο φίλου. Δεν μπορούσα ν’αρνηθώ την τιμή που μου έκαναν η Βίκυ και ο Άγγελος όταν μου είπαν ότι θέλουν να φωτογραφίσω τον γάμο τους. Με άφησαν με το ελεύθερο να κάνω ότι θέλω, όπως καταλαβαίνω καλύτερα. Οι αγαπημένες μου φωτογραφίες παρατίθενται παρακάτω. Ισως πιο αγαπημένες απ’ότι συνήθως, γιατί στην πλειονότητά τους απεικονίζουν αγαπημένα μου πρόσωπα.

On Saturday, the 12th of June, I found myself in Corfu to photograph the wedding of Angelos & Vicky. In contrast to most weddings where  I don’t know the guests or very often, the place, many things were familiar on this wedding. Vicky is a family friend whom I’ve known for many years. Corfu is where I grew up, until I was 18 when I went to Athens to study. Many of the guests were acquaintances, friends… and family.

The only thing unfamiliar was the church. Vicky and Angelos were married at the monastery of St Lucas close to Gouvia, probably the most beautiful church I have ever photographed at. Hidden by olive and cypress trees, a couple of minutes from one of the main highways on the island, many Corfiots don’t know its existence. From what I was told, the sister of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Greek Governor after the independence revolution of 1821 led her monastic life there.

After the ceremony, a reception was held at the hotel “Milton” in Roda, on the northern part of the island.

I cannot hide the fact that I was anxious about this wedding. Many colleagues would agree, that is it best not to undertake a wedding photography assignment for a friend. However, I couldn’t decline Vicky and Angelos when they told me they wanted me to photograph their wedding. They let me do my thing, as I saw fit. My favourite pictures follow. Maybe more favorite than usual, as in their majority they depict very favorite people.

Ο Ηλίας & η Φαίη παντρεύτηκαν την Κυριακή, 6 Ιουνίου στον ι.ν. Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Καβούρι και η δεξίωσή τους στο “Club Prive” στην Βάρκιζα. Ενας τυπικός γάμος του Ιουνίου… με εξαίρεση ίσως τον καιρό που απειλούσε για βροχή και το τηλεοπτικό συνεργείο που πήρε συνέντευξη από την Φαίη πριν ανέβει τα σκαλιά της εκκλησίας. Tώρα που το σκέφτομαι, δεν υπάρχει “τυπικός” γάμος. Ολοι είναι μοναδικοί και ιδιαίτεροι και αύτη είναι η πρόκληση που αγαπώ στην δουλειά μου. Elias & Fay were married on Sunday, June 6 at the church of St. George in Kavouri. Their reception took place at the “Club Prive” in Varkiza. A typical June wedding… with the exception of the weather that was overcast and gave all the signals of imminent rainfall and the television crew that interviewed Fay before she walked up the church steps. Now that I think of it, there is no such thing as a “typical” wedding. Each wedding is unique and special and that is the challenge I love in my work. Here are my favorite photos from their day…

Iasonas & Lilly were married on the 5th of June at the church of  Koimiseos Theotokou (Assumption of the Virgin Mary) in Varkiza, a few miles north of Athens. The reception was held at “The Margi” hotel, in Vouliagmeni. Their wedding day story in pictures…

Ο Chris & η Μαρίσσα, παρέα με τους κοντινούς τους φίλους, παντρεύτηκαν τις 7 Μαϊου στην Σαντορίνη, σε μια από τις αγαπημένες μου τοποθεσίες: Το Aspaki Suites στην Οία.  Μια απλή τελετή, στο μπαλκόνι της σουϊτας τους με θέα την Οία από την μια πλευρά, την καλντέρα από την άλλη. Μετά από μια μικρή βόλτα στην Οία, γυρίσαμε για ν’ανάψουν με την παρέα τους τα κινέζικα φαναράκια τα οποία απογειώθηκαν στον βραδυνό ουρανό. Το βράδυ τους τελείωσε με δείπνο στο εστιατόριο “Αρχιπέλαγος” στα Φηρά.

Chris & Marissa, accompanied by their close friends, were married on the 7th of May in Santorini, at one of my favorite locations; Aspaki Suites in Oia. A simple ceremony, on the balcony of their suite with a view of Oia from one side and the Caldera from the other. After a small walk around Oia, we returned to light the chinese lanterns with their friends. Their evening ended with a dinner at “Archipelagos” restaurant in Fira.
